School Update - September 25

We hope you had an opportunity to enjoy the gorgeous weather this weekend.  Congratulations to our Junior and Senior Boys volleyball teams, who won their respective tournaments on the weekend, and to our Golf team that will have representation in the upcoming Provincial Championships in Lloydminster.  Our Club Rush at lunch last week was very well-attended, as students expressed interest in the plethora of club offerings we have at Centennial.  As always, there is a great deal to celebrate here, and plenty of information to share.

Truth & Reconciliation Week at Centennial

Modified Schedules

  • From time to time we adjust our internal bell schedule for assemblies or other important presentations for students
  • The beginning and end times for these school days do NOT change, only some of the bell times during the day
  • The first two Modified Schedule days are:
    • Monday, October 2 (extended Period 3 due to a Guest Speaker visit)
    • Friday, October 6 (extended Period 1 for Grad Requirement (Gr. 12) and Study Skills (Gr. 10/11) presentations)
    • Again, school start time (8:40am) does not change on either of these days, nor do the end times
  • For extended Period 1 classes, students with Period 1 spares are to go to the Learning Commons to get information shared

Post-Secondary Fairs Upcoming!

  • We are hosting two post-secondary fairs in the coming weeks, and parents/guardians are welcome to attend both
  • Wednesday, October 4, 9:00 – 11:00am @ Centennial Cafeteria: In-Province Post-Secondary Fair.  There will be 20+ Post-Secondary Institute representatives in attendance to answer all of your questions that you may have.
  • Thursday, October 26, 6:00 – 7:30pm @ Centennial Gymnasium: Out-of-Province Post-Secondary Fair.  Post-Secondary Institutes from across Canada will be in attendance to answer questions.
  • Feedback I have heard over the years is that students and families of Grades 10 & 11 students also benefit from attending these fairs – they are not restricted to Grade 12s (though obviously they are of great value to graduating students)

Student Progress Conferences – October 19 & 20

  • Please note that our Student Progress Conferences will take place on Thursday & Friday, October 19 & 20
  • More details to come as the dates approach

Reminder for Our Students

  • Centennial High School cares about the greater community we are a part of
  • Students are reminded to consider our neighbours and larger community at all times – including during lunch break
  • Local businesses and residents deserve our kindness and appreciation – please do not litter, and please treat all in our community with respect at all times

On behalf of all of us at Centennial, I wish you a fantastic week.  I hope to see some of you on Wednesday night, and I hope to see a sea of orange at the school on Thursday.

Sincerely, Joe Sturgeon

Principal, Centennial High School
