Dear Centennial High School Community,

This week has felt a bit like drinking from a firehose (or maybe that is just me!)  As the school year gathers steam, the busy-ness of life in a high school community is now fully upon us.  I, for one, wouldn’t have it any other way.  Please read on for a handful of information items as we head into this beautiful weekend.

Thank You

Already this school year I have been cc’d on a number of emails sent to Centennial staff by parents in our community, expressing appreciation and gratitude.  I want to thank those of you who take the time out of your busy days to share a kind word with the hardworking staff of this school.  It does mean a great deal.

Post-Secondary Presentation

Today we had an extended Period 2, during which our Guidance team shared information regarding post-secondary applications and processes with students of all grades.  This assembly was via Microsoft Teams.  This year we included Grades 10 and 11 students in this assembly, as student feedback we have received is that they want more information about the post-high school world before their last year of high school.  I encourage you to ask your child about the assembly and the information shared.

Clubs! Clubs! Clubs!

This Wednesday at lunch we held our annual “Club Rush” in the gym.  Dozens of clubs were on display.  Please encourage your child to get involved at Centennial – there really is something for everyone here.  I also want to thank Centennial staff for going above and beyond to provide so many extracurricular opportunities for our students.

Parking Passes

• There are several dozen parking passes that students have purchased but have not yet picked up from our Business Office
• If your child has purchased a parking pass, please remind them to pick it up in the Business Office asap to avoid being ticketed
• Students who have not yet purchased a parking pass can do so in the Business Office

Donations for A Christmas Carol

Planning is underway for our Fall Drama production, and there are a few items that we are looking for.  If you are able to donate any of the items listed below, please let us know!

• EVA Foam (rolls of any width, foam floor tiles (puzzle edge))
• Extruded foam sheets; insulation foam (various thickness)
• PVC pipe and fittings (any length/width though ½” to 1” is ideal and pex pipe is also good)
• Upholstery foam (1/2” to 2” thick, larger pieces/sheets preferred)
• Bolts of fabric, large pieces of woven fabric (neutral solids preferred but will take any)
• White confetti and/or hold punch circles

Please have a look at your child’s Wellness Students Services D2L shell to access all kinds of information.  The shell is an excellent resource for students and families, and includes:

• Processes for booking appointments with Guidance
• Mental health resources in the community
• Information on what is required to graduate
• Information about IPPs
• Information on transitioning into grade 10 and out of grade 12
• Post-Secondary open houses and updates
• Scholarship opportunities
• Updates on sessions and events involving Student Services
• Indigenous Learner supports
• Learning strategy and planning tips
• And much, much more!
