Dear Centennial High School Community,

We hope you enjoyed the beautiful weekend.  We have a number of updates to share today, including reminders of presentations for parents taking place tomorrow and Thursday, upcoming post-secondary fairs hosted at Centennial, and information on booking the upcoming Student Progress Conferences.

Student Progress Conferences: Monday, October 19

  • Semester 1 Student Progress Conferences will take place virtually (via Microsoft Teams) on Monday, October 19
  • This is during the Non-Instruction Day, set for October 19 by the Calgary Board of Education to accommodate the provincial referendum on that date
  • Conferences will take place between 9:00am and 3:00pm
  • Parents/guardians can book a 10 minute time slot through your myCBE account
    • Bookings are available starting this Friday, October 9 at 8:00am
    • Please note that an appointment is required for all conferences
  • We will not have evening progress conferences, so that teaching staff have the opportunity to vote in the evening
    • *If you are unable to book an appointment with your child’s teacher(s), please email them to arrange another time to discuss your child’s progress
  • These documents provide instructions on how to book conferences through your myCBE account, and how to access virtual meetings

Post-Secondary Fairs!

  • We are happy to announce we will be hosting two post-secondary fairs this year!
  • We are looking forward to welcoming schools from across Canada in our Out Of Province Fair, and from Alberta for our ELAA fair
  • Parents/Guardians and students alike are invited to join us for both of these fairs – if you are joining us, please feel free to park in our Student Parking Lot
  • Out of Province Post-Secondary Fair
    • Wednesday, October 14: 6:00-7:30pm
    • Centennial High School Gym
    • 41 schools will be in attendance (please see the Centennial D2L Wellness shell for the list of schools that will be attending)
  • ELAA Alberta Post-Secondary Fair
    • Friday, October 16: 9:00-10:45am
    • Centennial Lower Cafeteria
    • 21 schools will be in attendance (please see Centennial D2L Wellness shell for a list of schools attending)

From Our Guidance Department: Upcoming Post-Secondary Visits

  • As we move into the Fall term, Centennial is happy to continue to host Post-Secondary information booths
  • This is a great opportunity for all students to ask questions in preparation for early admission applications, or for Post-Secondary applications next year

 Presentation for Parents on University Admissions!

  • CHS School Council is excited to present a free presentation that will be very helpful for any parents with children planning to attend post-secondary
  • Please join us for Behind the Admission Desk: What Grade 12 Families Need to Know for the 2026–27 Post-Secondary Admission Cycle
  • Thursday, October 8

  • Guest speaker Renee Duan of UNI Consulting will share expert insights on navigating the upcoming admissions cycle, including:
    • Common mistakes that cost students admission offers, scholarships, or program options
    • What admissions committees really look for in interviews, personal statements, portfolios, and supplementary applications
    • Critical Grade 12 timelines, deadlines, and planning milestones
  • This presentation is ideal for Grade 12 parents, but also very informative for Grade 11 parents and even those of Grade 10 students

Unique Pathways Information Night!

  • This is another excellent upcoming event, this one for students and families looking to:
    • Meet our post-secondary and industry partners
    • Learn about different courses and programs
    • Discover options that connect to future education, careers and interests
    • Ask questions, talk directly with industry experts and post-secondary representatives
    • Explore program materials and find out what opportunities might be a good fit 
  • When: Tuesday, October 6, 2026
  • Time: 5:00 – 7:00 PM
  • Where: Career and Technology Centre at Lord Shaughnessy High School (2336- 53 Ave SW, Calgary, AB)
  • Who: Grade 10 – 12 students, parents and guardians 
  • Register for the information night
  • Registration is not required – however, it is helpful for the team in ensuring we have proper representation for programs of interest to students and families

Parking Passes

  • There still a number of parking passes that students have purchased but have not yet picked up from our Business Office
  • If your child has purchased a parking pass, please remind them to pick it up in the Business Office asap to avoid being ticketed
  • Students who have not yet purchased a parking pass can do so in the Business Office
