Dear Centennial High School Community,

As I type this message our Junior Boys volleyball team is hard at work in the gym, as we host St. Mary’s High School.  Our Senior Boys play after that, and at 7pm our School Council and Parent Society meeting will take place in the school Learning Commons.  With football and volleyball playoffs on the horizon, the Vic Lewis Band Festival upcoming in Canmore, us hosting the Horizon Student Leadership Conference this Thursday and a Model UN competition a month from now, preparations underway for the school Drama production A Christmas Carol, Cosmetology client services taking place, and so much more, Centennial High School is as busy as ever.

Please read on for some updates and information.

Centennial Students & Staff Making the World A Better Place

  • Kudos to the Mr. Krause, Mr. McMahon, and the dozen Centennial students who saved lives last week
    • These Coyotes traveled downtown and donated blood through Canadian Blood Services
    • It is no small thing to donate blood – it is truly a lifesaving endeavour
    • We hope that we have dozens and dozens of students donate blood when we host a mobile Blood Donor Clinic in the spring – right here in the Centennial gymnasium!
  • Kudos as well to Mr. Chmilar, Ms. Chmilar, Ms. Curry, and Ms. Tay, as well as our incredible Model United Nations team – Centennial achieved great success a little over a week ago at the Model UN competition hosted by Sir Winston Churchill High School
    • Congratulations Dana P, who is the first ever Coyote to win the Gavel for Best Delegate at the Model UN
    • Congratulations also to Omar R and Jenna A (Verbal Commendation Awards), Ethan Z (Best Diplomat), and our entire Model UN team!
    • For the first time, Centennial will host a Model UN competition on November 20 & 21, welcoming and competing against schools from across Western Canada – Go ‘Yotes!

Calgary Food Bank Drive

  • Speaking of making the world a better place, kudos to Valentina M and Chelsea W – students in our Broadcast Journalism 15 and Drama 10 programs
  • Valentina and Chelsea are coordinating a Food Bank Drive that culminates on the day of our Remembrance Day Assembly (November 10)
  • Food boxes will be set up by the Main Office from October 28 to November 10
  • Please encourage your child to bring some food items to donate to this important cause
  • This document is the Calgary Food Bank 2026 Wish List; these are their most needed items: Calgary Food Bank 2026 Wish List.jpg

Remembrance Day Assemblies

  • I am very proud of the beautiful, poignant Remembrance Day assemblies that we host at Centennial
  • These assemblies have always been open to the public, and we once again are inviting you all to join us in our Gymnasium
  • We hold two identical assemblies back to back, so that all students and staff can attend one in person
  • The assemblies are on the morning of Tuesday, November 10
  • I will share the exact start times in a future School Messenger – we hope you can join us at the assembly that best fits your schedule

Parking Pass Reminder

  • The installation of the modular classrooms along the south side of Centennial High School is complete
  • As such, with contractors and others no longer using our Student Parking Lot, we will begin enforcing parking pass compliance in the coming weeks
  • Please ensure your child has purchased and is displaying a parking pass at all times when parked at Centennial High School, so that they do not get ticketed by Calgary Bylaw

Thank you for reading, and have a great rest of the week.

Sincerely,
Joe Sturgeon

Principal, Centennial High School
