School Update - January 26
Dear Centennial High School Community,
Yesterday was a big day at Centennial. It was the final day of Semester 1 for Inclusive Education students, while Science 24 and Biology 20 students wrote Final Exams and Biology 30 students wrote their Diploma Exam. During the day we welcomed hundreds of students and staff from several Junior High feeder schools for Grade 9 Tours. Our future Coyotes were excited, energetic, and well-behaved. We look forward to welcoming them for real in the Fall. We are grateful for the staff of our partner schools, who work so hard to support their/our students in preparation for the significant transition to high school.
Last night we welcomed the larger community – predominantly comprised of families of Grade 9 students planning or hoping to attend Centennial in the Fall – for our Open House event. The turnout was incredible. It is both humbling and reassuring to see how many families want their children to attend our school, and inspiring to see how engaged Centennial families continue to be in the education of their children.
Please read on for some very important updates.

New Sign Language Club!
- Centennial Education Assistants extraordinaire Julie Gray and Colleen Jackson are starting an American Sign Language (ASL) club shortly after the Family Day long weekend!
- This club is for students and staff who have a passion, interest or curiosity for ASL
- The club will be a safe and fun place to come and experience the basics of ASL
- We will explore and learn about the importance of body language, facial expression and the rich culture and history of ASL, while expanding awareness of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community
- Participants will engage in conversational ASL, ASL games, sharing of each other’s knowledge, videos and presentations
- Students should listen for announcements, look for posters around the school, and check the TV screen announcements – or see Ms. Gray or Ms. Jackson – for more information
- We look forward to seeing you at this exciting new club!
Wishing you and yours a wonderful weekend (three cheers for nice weather)! Sincerely,
Joe Sturgeon
Principal, Centennial High School
