Centennial High School Updates – April 23, 2026

Dear Centennial High School Community,

Today is a big day for CBE schools behind the scenes, as Principals receive our RAM (Resource Allocation Method, which is essentially our budget for the 2026/27 school year).  At Centennial we have been planning and preparing for the spring RAM and staffing cycle for weeks, as we continue to look to attract and retain outstanding staff while offering optimal opportunities for our students.  It is an exciting time of year, and work I enjoy.  However, that is behind the scenes.  There has been a great deal of magic going on at Centennial front and centre, and today I will share many of these celebrations and accolades while also providing several updates.  Please read below.

No School Tomorrow

  • Friday, April 24 is the System Indigenous Non-Instruction Day known as Maatoomsii’ Pookaiks (Children First)
  • Centennial staff is excited to be visiting Tsuut’ina Nation for the day
  • The school is closed; no classes for students

Unified Sport Student Athletes Excel!

  • On Tuesday, April 21 our Unified Sports team competed in a 3-on-3 basketball tournament at the University of Calgary, playing against several other schools
  • Unified Sports pairs athletes with diverse learning needs alongside peer partners, allowing them to support one another while playing and competing as a team
  • Our students had a fantastic time competing, meeting new friends, and enjoying the game of basketball
  • Thank you to Lord Beaverbrook High School, who shared their bus and transported our team to the U of C after two of our three school buses broke down over the past week!
  • One of the most meaningful moments of the day was seeing many of our students in specialized programs reconnect with friends from past schools – it was a great reminder of how sport brings people of all abilities together to create a sense of belonging, fun, and healthy competition
  • Congratulations and thank you to our Unified Sports athletes, coaches, peer mentors, and staff sponsors – we are so proud of all of you!

Badminton Kudos!

  • This Monday and again yesterday our badminton athletes competed in City Championships
  • Congratulations to all of our athletes, including our medalists!
    • Junior Singles Silver: Adrienn G; Jedidiah M
    • Intermediate Singles Gold: Jane C; Tony N
    • Senior Mixed Bronze: Cindy H & Hunter H
  • Good luck to the athletes who are moving on to compete in Zones!

Fantastic Testimonial About our Band Students & Staff

  • This past weekend our exceptional Music Program was on full display at the Vic Lewis Band Festival in Canmore
  • Not only did our students excel on stage, but they left quite an impression on all they encountered
  • I want to share with you a note I received from the National Motor Coach bus driver who transported our students to and from Canmore:
    • Good Day.  My name is XXXXXXX, and I was one of the National Motor Coach drivers responsible for transporting the students from Centennial HS to Canmore, and return, on April 17 and 18th. I want to praise the Group Lead, Gloria Laurendeau and her support staff (sorry I do not have their names). From the time we arrived at your school, till the time we returned, your students were one of the most organized, punctual, well behaved, respectful, and polite school groups I have had in a very long time. Trust me on this comment, as we do a lot of school trips. The support staff made sure students were accounted for, and helped make sure everything ran according to plan. The loading of the instruments was perfect. I could not have done better myself. Please pass on my most appreciated and sincere pleasure it was on this trip. Thank You !! I hope to have this privilege next year.
  • I am exceptionally proud of our Music students, teacher, supervisors and parents – thank you for representing your school community with such character

DramaFest Next Week!

  • Centennial Drama and Tech Theatre students will be attending DramaFest at the University of Calgary next week (April 28 – 30)
  • Good luck to our performing artists and technicians – Go ‘Yotes!
