Centennial High School Updates – April 10, 2026

Dear Centennial High School Community,

Centennial is bustling along, as we tend to do each April.  So much is going on.  Today we are wrapping up an amazing Culture Week.  It has been a wonderful week of celebrating the cultural diversity of our school community.  Meanwhile, we have Model UN students competing in Vancouver as I type (with others set to compete here in the city this weekend), Band students preparing for the Vic Lewis Festival in Canmore next weekend, Valedictorian candidates competing in their ‘speech-off’ yesterday and today, badminton divisionals approaching, spring sports underway, Grad approaching quickly, and so much more!  Spring is indeed a busy time in high school.

To that end, please read on for a number of updates.

Term 3 Report Cards

  • Report Cards will be available for viewing on Tuesday, April 14
  • Parents/guardians can access report cards through their MyCBE account

Grad Updates

  • This year we experienced an unexpected and unprecedented demand for Graduation Banquet tickets
  • For the past three years we have held our breath, hoping to sell enough Banquet tickets to run a viable event and barely reaching the minimum number of ticket sales to do so
  • This year we sold out within half a day - something that has never occurred at Centennial
  • I want to express my sincere appreciation to members of our Grad Committee who have worked tirelessly this week helping support families frustrated by this quick sell-out
  • Thank you also to our school community for your patience and kindness as we navigate this unprecedented demand

Grad Ceremony Tickets

  • Though our Grad Banquet is sold out, we have had a slow uptake in families getting their Graduation Ceremony tickets
  • Please note that, though Grad Ceremony tickets are free, ALL guests must have and present a ticket to attend the ceremony on May 15
    • The first round of Grad Ceremony tickets closes on Friday, April 17
  • Each student can access as many as three tickets for guests initially, with the possibility of additional tickets becoming available if demand remains low
  • Graduands do NOT require a ticket – only guests
  • You can access Graduation Ceremony tickets through this link: Graduation Ceremony Tickets
    • The Access Code is the student’s CBE Student ID number

CHAMP Rain Barrel Fundraiser Event

  • CHAMP (the Centennial High Association of Music Parents) is hosting a rain barrel fundraiser over the coming weeks
  • Collecting rainwater is a great way to grow healthy gardens, and is a wonderful opportunity to show commitment to water conservation – especially considering recent and ongoing water restrictions in our city
  • The City of Calgary provides a rebate ($50/barrel) for up to 3 rain barrels per purchaser
  • The sale benefits CHAMP, and will be held at Centennial on Friday, April 24 from 3:00 – 6:00pm
  • Please click this link for more information, and (if interested) to order your rain barrel: CHAMP Rain Barrel Fundraiser

Non-Instruction Day – April 24

  • Please note that Friday, April 24 is a System Professional Learning Day (no classes for students)
  • The school will be closed on that day

School Council Meeting – April 30

  • Our next School Council and Parent Society meeting will take place online via Microsoft Teams
  • Please note the date change: the meeting will be Thursday, April 30 at 7:00pm
  • I will share a Teams link for the meeting closer to April 30

Thank you for reading.  I hope you have a magnificent weekend.

Sincerely,

Joe Sturgeon

Principal, Centennial High School
