Dear Centennial High School Community,

As I look at the snow accumulating, I confess to feeling envious of the 47 students and 8 staff members who are boarding a flight this evening en route to Italy.  Bon voyage and safe travels to all participating in our annual Spring Break Europe trip!  We hope all of our students, whether going somewhere or remaining in the city, have the opportunity to rest and revitalize during the break – time moves quickly once we return in April!

Please read below for some important updates.

Congratulations to our Music Program!

  • On Tuesday, March 12 Ms. Laurendeau and our Music Program hosted our annual Feeder School Music Concert
  • Samuel W. Shaw, MidSun, Marshall Springs and Willow Park School Bands all performed beautifully, as did the Calgary Stampede Showband Percussion Section & Brass Choir
  • Our gym was packed (literally) to the rafters, with standing room only, and it was a beautiful night of music
  • Thank you to our feeder school Music teachers, administration teams, parents/guardians and of course budding musicians, for sharing keeping music thriving through a rough period in our recent history, and for sharing your exceptional talents with our community!

Student Progress Conferences

  • Student Progress Conferences are this evening (in person at Centennial) and tomorrow (virtual, via Microsoft Teams)
  • Conferences were booked through your MyCBE account – they are not drop-in meetings
  • If you were unable to book an appointment with any of your child’s teachers, please reach out to them via email to arrange another time to chat with them

Spring Break

  • There is no school tomorrow (Friday, March 22) due to virtual Student Progress Conferences
  • Spring Break is March 25 – April 1
  • Classes resume Tuesday, April 2

Planet Youth Community Circle: April 9

  • Planet Youth is hosting a Community Circle Tuesday, April 9 from 6:00 – 8:00pm @ Bishop O’Byrne High School
  • All are welcome to join them for a free meal and conversation with Elders Reg and Rose Crowshoe
  • For more information, reach out via email to shawnessy@planetyouthcalgary.com or mfinnbogason@miskanawah.ca

Overdue Demographic Forms

  • Several students whose Demographic Forms had not been completed had paper copies sent home with them on March 6
  • These forms are past due and must be completed and returned as soon as possible

Grad List Posting: April 4

  • Grade 12 students who plan to cross the stage at our Graduation Ceremony in May must check for their names on our initial Grad List
  • The list will be posted outside the T Wing Guidance office on Thursday, April 4
  • Students with questions should see their Guidance Counsellor

Growing Student Numbers

  • As you may have heard, Joane Cardinal-Schubert High School (in Seton) has been capped for new student enrolment
  • Centennial High School has been designated as an “overflow” school, meaning that new student registrations from the communities of Auburn Bay, Cranston, Mahogany, and Seton may be sent to Centennial instead of JCS
  • Our school is already growing significantly in student numbers, but we have the space and resources to continue to thrive and to make Centennial a great place of learning for all students

Wishing all Coyotes a restful and rejuvenating Spring Break.

Sincerely,

Joe Sturgeon, Principal

Centennial High School
