Dear Centennial High School Community,

We are starting to get into the swing of things here at Centennial as the school year gets officially underway.  We hope to see many of you here at Centennial TONIGHT for our Meet the Teacher event (more on that below).  Meanwhile, our Senior Boys football team kicks off the 2024/25 athletics season with their first regular season game at Shouldice Park (go ‘Yotes!).  Before we know it, Winter Break will be upon us!

In the meantime, please read on for a few school updates.

Meet the Teacher Night

  • Please join us in the Gym tonight (Thursday, Sept 5) at 6:45pm
  • There will be a brief assembly at 7:00pm, followed by parents/guardians following an abbreviated version of their child’s Monday timetable (Period 1, then 2, 3, and 4)
  • The evening concludes at 8:25pm
  • Please join us tonight for the opportunity to put faces to names as you Meet the Teachers!

Yearbook Sales

  • Demand for yearbooks at Centennial continues to be robust year after year
  • “Yearbook” is a student-led club and a community effort; students take most of the photos and design the final product – they work diligently to make the yearbook special
  • Cost for yearbooks is $50; they are on sale until February 13, 2025
  • You can purchase a yearbook through your myCBE account in PowerSchool (just like the way you pay school fees); please ensure that you complete the purchase (do not just put the item in your cart)

Wellness “Course” in D2L

  • At some point next week, ALL Centennial students will be enrolled in a course titled “Wellness”
  • This course will show up on student schedules, but is NOT an actual course that students attend – rather, it is a way to connect our school community with Student Services resources
  • Our outstanding Guidance team created this course last year to provide a venue for all kinds of resources and supports for students, and the feedback from students and their families has been very positive
  • The following information will be available for students through this D2L shell:
    • Processes for booking appointments with Guidance
    • Mental Health Resources in the community
    • Information on what is required to Graduate
    • Information about IPPs
    • Access to instructions on how to apply to Post-Secondary Institutions
    • Scholarship opportunities
    • Updates on sessions and events involving Student Services
    • Indigenous Learner supports
    • Learning Strategy and Planning tips
  • And much, much more – look forward to hearing more from us!

Thank you for reading, and we will see many of you tonight!

Sincerely,

Joe Sturgeon, Principal
