Dear Centennial High School Community,
As we head into mid-September, there are already several updates and reminders to share with our students, parents and guardians. Please read on for this information.
From our Guidance Department: Post-Secondary Visits
- Centennial has established excellent relationships with many Post-Secondary institutions, many of which will visit our school in the coming months
- Centennial provides drop-in opportunities for students to connect with Post-Secondary recruiters; the recruiters set up information tables just outside of the T Wing Guidance office – typically during Tutorials or lunch break
- Whenever recruiters are here, students are welcome to drop by the table to speak with them about programs of interest, applications, and any questions they may have
- This is time for them to speak to the experts directly!
Upcoming Post-Secondary Visit Dates
- Tuesday, September 17: University of Victoria, 12:00 – 12:45pm
- Wednesday, September 18: McEwan University, 8:30 – 9:15am
- Tuesday, September 24: University of Alberta, 8:30 – 9:15am
Joane Cardinal-Schubert Student Overflow Update
- To start this school year, Centennial has welcomed 77 students who were overflowed from their designated high school (Joane Cardinal-Schubert) due to significant capacity issues at JCS
- JCS is now in a place where they have enough space to welcome back any of these students who want to return to their community high school (the decision is up to students and their families)
- JCS school personnel have been connecting with each of these families to share options and next steps
- We know that it can be difficult to begin a school year in one building and then move to another, but I am grateful that our JCS families who have experienced challenges with transit and the logistics of their child attending a school further from home will now have the opportunity to return to their designated school – we completely understand wanting to attend school closer to home
- JCS is a great school, and for those students choosing to attend there, you will find yourself happy to be a Raven in short order – we wish you the best!
All In For Youth Success Coach
- Over the past few years, Centennial has established a valuable partnership with All In For Youth
- We benefit from an All In For Youth Success Coach (Ieuan Roberts) being available at Centennial on a half-time basis
- Ieuan and All In For Youth are able to provide a vast array of supports for students and families in need
- Students can connect with Mr. Roberts through their Guidance Counsellor or Assistant Principal
Planet Youth Shawnessy
- Centennial also has a strong partnership with Planet Youth
- Planet Youth works diligently to provide resources and opportunities to make entire communities happier and healthier
- Please see the attached poster (click on the link below) regarding a Planet Youth opportunity to share your voice to improve our larger community
Wellness D2L Shell
- A quick reminder that all Centennial students are now enrolled in a “course” called Wellness
- This is a D2L shell accessible for all students, and contains many valuable and supportive resources for students and families
- This is not a course that students attend or get marks in – it is just a place to provide resources and supports
School Council Meeting – Guest Speaker!
Our first School Council & Parent Society meeting of the year is Thursday, September 26 at 7pm
- We will be welcoming guest speaker Shelly Qualteri that evening
- Ms. Qualteri will speak about youth mental health, strategies and supports for families, and many other important ideas and topics
- Please join us at Centennial on September 26!
Wishing you a terrific end to the week, and a relaxing and enjoyable weekend.
