Dear Centennial High School Community,

As you are aware, students and teaching staff returned to school today.  It has been a hectic day to be sure, and things will continue to be fast-moving and complex moving forward.  We appreciate your understanding and patience as we return to the work of teaching and learning.  We also recognize the stress and anxiety that our students (and their families) are likely experiencing.  We will do all we can to catch students up academically while reducing their angst.

In the meantime, CBE Principals will be receiving information and updates during a morning meeting tomorrow (followed by a second meeting for CBE High School Principals tomorrow afternoon).  I will do my best to keep our school community informed and updated.  In the meantime, please read below for some information pieces.

IMPORTANT: Terms 1 & 2 Date Adjustments

  • As you may know, Term 1 courses were scheduled to end today, with Term 2 courses beginning tomorrow – THIS HAS CHANGED
  • This impacts courses like CALM 20 and other 3 credit term courses including but not limited to Psychology, Forensic Science, and Astronomy
  • Shortly after noon today, Principals were informed that Term 1 will now end on November 14 to allow for successful completion of 3 credit courses like those mentioned above
  • Term 2 is now scheduled to begin on November 17
  • Please note that this does not impact Semester courses (courses that run for all of Semester 1, from September through late January)

School Council Meeting Postponed

  • The School Council/Parent Society meeting previously scheduled for tonight has been cancelled
  • It is likely that our next meeting will be the one scheduled for Wednesday, November 26 at 7:00pm
  • If School Council decides to hold a meeting prior to November 26, I will inform our community via School Messenger

Student Progress Conferences Cancelled

  • As you are likely aware, our Student Progress Conferences were scheduled for last Monday (October 20)
  • Due to the strike action and lockout, we were unable to hold these conferences and they are unlikely to be re-scheduled
  • Students are encouraged to connect with their teachers now that teaching and learning has resumed, to help them get caught up
  • Parents/guardians are reminded to keep an eye on student attendance and marks through PowerSchool, and are also welcome to connect with teachers regarding their children

Remembrance Day Ceremony

  • Centennial will host our annual Remembrance Day Ceremony on Friday, November 7 @ 10:10am
  • Members of the public are absolutely welcome to join us in the school gymnasium for this important event

Yearbooks

  • Yearbooks are available to purchase on Jostens' website: http://jostensyearbooks.com/?ref=A01084231
  • Yearbooks are NOT being sold via your myCBE account – they can only be purchased via the Jostens website
  • Each yearbook is $50 and offers a wonderful way to relive the unforgettable memories made throughout the year
  • Be sure to order yours by February 28, 2026!

Thank you for reading, and have a great rest of the week.

Sincerely,
Joe Sturgeon
