Dear Centennial High School Community, As we head into the weekend, we wanted to share some reasons to celebrate some of the many things being accomplished by our students, staff, and larger community. In the message below you will also see some updates about our upcoming School Council meeting and some post-secondary visits and our in-province post-secondary fair. Fall Feast! - On Tuesday, October 22 we welcomed dozens of our Centennial Indigenous students and their loved ones for an evening gathering and visit
- Delicious stew and bannock was prepared by our Culinary Arts program and served by students to our guests
- A great time was had by all
- A sincere thank you to Preston Huppie, Centennial Learning Leader and Indigenous Student Graduation Coach, for organizing this wonderful event
Did you know that November is Metis Month? - I learned this week that of all the 250+ schools in the Calgary Board of Education, Centennial High School has the second highest population of Metis students!
- We look forward to continuing to celebrate all Indigenous students, and ways of knowing, in our school community
Girls Soccer Success! - A huge congratulations to our Girls Soccer team, who won Silver in Division II on Wednesday afternoon
- Our girls had a great season, pushing the Final to a gut wrenching shootout!
- Congratulations to our players, coaches, and trainers for an outstanding season
Horizons Leadership Conference - Our Leadership program hosted almost 20 schools for the Horizons Leadership Conference yesterday at Centennial
- Hundreds of students and staff joined our Leadership Coyotes in a day of learning, laughs, and inspiration
- Thank you to our Leadership teachers, Facilities staff, and especially our outstanding student leaders for organizing and hosting this terrific event!
Football Seasons Wrapping Up, Volleyball Playoffs Upcoming - Congratulations to our Junior and Senior football teams for their solid seasons, and thank you to all of our coaches for volunteering countless hours to ensure our football program continues to grow
- Good luck to our volleyball teams, as playoffs approach – all four teams are having excellent seasons and we are excited to see how the playoffs unfold!
Student Progress Conferences - Last night we hosted in-person Student Progress Conferences (today we had virtual conferences via Microsoft Teams)
- The attendance last night was fantastic; it was wonderful to see so many parents and guardians (and students!) here chatting with teaching staff
- The number of parents and guardians who took the time to provide me with positive feedback about our school and the dedicated staff who work with their children was overwhelming – thank you for the kind words, your kindness means a lot to all of us at Centennial
- The staff of Centennial High School work tirelessly in support of your children, and we are proud of the partnership we continue to forge with you – the parents and guardians who care so much about your kids and their well-being and success
Post-Secondary Fairs - We had an enormous turnout last night for our Out-of-Province Post-Secondary Fair
- Hundreds of people attended, including dozens of families from other high schools in south Calgary
- Our In-Province Post-Secondary Fair is Tuesday, October 29 (9:00 – 11:00am in our Cafeteria)
Upcoming Post-Secondary Visits - Monday, October 28: University of Ottawa, 8:30 – 9:15am
- Wednesday, October 30: University of King's College, 8:30 – 9:15am
- Wednesday, October 30: Acadia University, 8:30 – 9:15am
- Acadia will be offering On-the-Spot Admission for any students who have their transcripts or Detailed Academic Report (DAR) ready, and who are eligible to apply
School Council and CHiPS (Centennial Parent Society) Meeting - Our next School Council & CHiPS Meeting is Wednesday, October 30 at 7:00pm in our Learning Commons
- CHiPS will be discussing and designating Casino Funds at this meeting
