Dear Centennial High School Community,

We hope this finds you well.  A quick reminder that students do not have school this Friday as it is a Non-Instruction Day.  Please read below for a couple updates.

Spanish Exchange Students!

  • Our visiting Spanish exchange students (from Spain and Mexico) depart this Saturday to return home
  • Our guests have had an incredible time in Calgary and at Centennial
  • Centennial staff and students were incredibly friendly and welcoming to our exchange students, who express that they love our city and nation (they want to stay!)
  • Thank you to our exchange students: Claudia F.M. (Spain), Maria A.S. (Spain), Alejandro C.A. (Spain), Valeria V.R. (Spain), Fernando S. (Mexico), and Daniel A. (Spain); we wish you safe travels home!
  • Our sincere gratitude to our host Centennial students and their families: Nadia R., Aoife F., Nishanko C., Stella M., Yana S., and Alexia B.
  • Our Centennial students look forward to their adventures spending 10 weeks abroad during the second semester!
  • Finally, it is important to express our appreciation to our second languages teacher Ms. Claudia Babin, who has worked tirelessly to coordinate this invaluable opportunity for Centennial students and families (and for our guests as well) over the past couple school years – thank you Ms. Babin!

Brown Bag Lunch Fundraiser!

  • Our Leadership program has come up with an exciting and creative fundraiser to support the Centennial Brown Bag program
  • The Brown Bag program supports Centennial students experiencing food insecurity by providing nutritious food at breakfast and lunch
  • The fundraiser involves purchasing tickets to enter into a draw for one of the following prizes offered by Centennial staff and our larger community:
    • HAWC Helicopter Tour for the winner and 2 friends courtesy Cst. Allard and the Calgary Police Service
    • Full Gym @ Lunch for you and up to 20 of your friends – you choose the activity
    • Tackle Coach Parnell for Hunger – 1 student gets to tackle Coach Parnell in full football gear
    • Mr. Krause Hot Wing Challenge – 2 students get to take on Mr. Krause to see who can handle the hottest hot wings
    • Free Yearbook from the Yearbook Committee
    • Mr. Friedley Fun Board Games and Snacks for you and 5 friends
    • Free Haircut and Style by Ms. Kalala
    • Autos with Mr. Ostrander – learn many auto care skills with Mr. Ostrander
    • Fancy Schmancy Lunch for Two in the cafeteria – you pick the menu with our chefs
    • Bannock Making with Mr. Huppie for you and 3 friends
    • Picnic with Ms. Penner for you and 4 friends
    • Sugar Cookie Decorating with Ms. Ritchie for you and 4 friends
    • Access Class Sensory Room Night Club for you and 3 friends
  • Students can purchase tickets in the Upper Cafeteria until Monday, December 2.
  • Tickets are $2 each, with better deals all the way to $20 for 20 tickets
  • Winners will be announced Tuesday, December 3 by end of day.
  • Thank you to our Leadership students and teachers, and to all staff who have donated their creative prizes (and time) for this important initiative!
  • Thank you as well to our incredible Guidance Department – Ms. Hunter, Mx. Mead, Ms. Minhas, and Ms. Harrison – for the incredible time and energy you commit to supporting all Centennial students, including those who unfortunately do not always have enough to eat
