Dear Centennial High School Community,

First, I apologize for the cavalcade of School Messengers we have sent this week (for those of you with Grade 12 students, this is the 4th Messenger you have received from us in the past few days).  However, there are a few items we would like to ensure we share with the community as we head into the weekend.

Final Music Concert of the Year – Thursday, May 9 at 7pm

  • Please join us May 9 at 7pm (School Gymnasium) for our final concert of the year, featuring the CHS Band and Choir!
  • We are once again collecting donations for the Calgary Food Bank at the concert
  • Please see the attachment (click on the link below) for recommended Food Bank donations

Kudos to our Culinary Arts Program!

  • The staff & students of our Culinary Arts program do exceptional work all year long
  • This year they have catered a number of evening meals at Sundance on the Green, a Seniors Residence across the field from Centennial
  • Thank you to our Culinary program for developing this wonderful partnership, and to the residents of Sundance on the Green for being such great neighbours!

Tutorial Reminder

  • As the school year begins to wind down, please remind your child that Tutorials are scheduled every Monday to Thursday from 8:40 – 9:10am
  • Students are encouraged to see whichever teacher they need help from during Tutorials
  • Reminder: there are no Tutorials on Fridays; Period 1 begins at 8:40am

Provincials!  Provincials!  Provincials!

  • We have several students involved in various forms of Provincials over the coming week
  • Good luck to our Badminton athlete and our Alberta Skills competitors as they ply their respective trades against top competition!

Trespassing

  • The heavy police presence at Centennial this morning reminded me that it is a good time to re-emphasize with our school community the seriousness with which we will continue to address trespassing
  • Please remind your student that all schools are closed campuses, and any instances of Centennial students trespassing at other schools will result in disciplinary action
  • Please also remind your student that inviting, aiding, welcoming, or escorting trespassers at Centennial is also of significant concern, and will also result in disciplinary action
  • All visitors to Centennial High School must proceed directly to the Main Office to sign in
  • We will continue to work diligently to help ensure that Centennial High School is a safe community for all students and staff

Water Guns & the Senior “Assassins” Challenge

  • As many of you are likely aware, a city-wide challenge has been ongoing called “Senior Assassins”
  • This challenge involves, in part, shooting other competitors with water guns
  • During the visit from police this morning due to a prank call incident, I was asked by an officer to share with our community that there have been a number of incidents involving students entering schools with water guns – which at times have appeared to be realistic firearms
  • This would of course be a concern and create alarm in school communities
  • Additionally, water on floors such as those at Centennial are slipping hazards, which can be a major safety concern (we have a number of students at our school who are very medically fragile)
  • We remind all students that water guns of any kind are not permitted on school property

Thank you for reading, and have a fantastic weekend.
