Dear Centennial High School Community,
Spring Break approaches, and with the circumstances that ours and many schools have faced these past few weeks, the timing is much appreciated. Spring Break is an opportunity for all of us at Centennial – students and staff alike – to rest and recharge. Things move even more quickly once we return! Please read on for a large number of important updates.
Europe Trip Departure!
· An incredible tradition at Centennial involves students and staff learning abroad during Spring Break
· Tomorrow, over 50 Coyote students and staff depart for Germany, Czechia, and Austria!
· Thank you to Teacher-in-Charge Brandon Chmilar, and all of our exceptional staff supervisors, for your tireless work in making this amazing experience possible – safe travels!
Senior Girls in the Provincial Final Four!
· Your City Champion, Calgary Regional Champion, and #1 ranked Centennial Coyote Senior Girls will vie for a Provincial Championship this weekend!
· The semi-final is tomorrow (Friday) at 6pm at WinSport
· Our girls will play for Gold on Saturday at 5pm, or Bronze Saturday at noon – all games at WinSport
· Tickets are required for spectators, and can be purchased online through the ASAA
· Go ‘Yotes!!!
Mathletes Galore!
· On Wednesday, April 2 twenty Centennial students will take part in the Euclid Math Competition, held by the University of Waterloo
· Good luck participants, and thank you Ms. Dubroja for your excellent work organizing this opportunity and inspiring our top Math students!
Wrestling Accolades!
· This past weekend our Coyote Wrestling Team competed in Provincials
· In just our 3rd year existing as a team, Centennial finished 18th out of 78 teams in the province!
· Congratulations to Sia P and Yusuf K, who won their respective Provincial championships!
· Congratulations also to Hunter K (Bronze), Bahman K (4th place)
· Congrats as well to Coach Barron-MacFadden (as well as our other volunteer coaches!) for an outstanding season
Skills Alberta Standouts!
· Centennial was well-represented by several outstanding students at the Skills Alberta regional competitions last weekend at SAIT
· Our students competed in everything from Video Production to Fashion Design, Hairstyling to Woodwork
· Congratulations to Aly H (Bronze – Braiding) and Wesley D (Bronze – Cabinetmaking); good luck at Provincials in May!
· Thank you to our exceptional teacher coaches – Ms. Kilby, Mr. Friedley, Ms. Miller, and Ms. Parmiter, among others – for supporting these talented students!
Centennial in the News!
· On Tuesday this week, CBE Media Relations people were at Centennial to interview outstanding Grade 12 students Rosie E and Kyla L
· Rosie and Kyla have been student leaders throughout our system – leading the charge towards well-being and building community, and even presented to a room of hundreds at the system-wide Middle School Well-Being Symposium held at Mount Royal University a few weeks ago
· CBC will be visiting our school after Spring Break to interview Rosie and Kyla as well – word of their incredible leadership and the impact of all student leaders at Centennial High School is really spreading!
Graduation 2025
· Grad Banquet & Dance Ticket Sales
o Thank you to all grade 12 families who have purchased banquet and dance tickets for our CHS Graduation 2025!
o A reminder that ticket sales for the banquet and dance will close on April 2 at 11:59pm

· Grad Ceremony Information
o The ceremony program includes a processional, during which graduands and guests enter the designated ceremony location in the building in their academic gowns while the audience stands to receive them
o Each graduand crosses the stage to receive a certificate and congratulations from the Principal
o Lifetouch takes a picture of the graduand as they receive their certificate
o These pictures will be available on the Lifetouch website after the ceremony, the cost of which is included in student Grad fees (expanded packages will also be available for purchase)
· IMPORTANT Graduation CEREMONY Ticket Information
o Tickets for the May 16 Graduation Ceremony are available Monday, April 7 at 9:00am through Friday, April 11
o There will be an initial limit of 4 free guest tickets per graduate, with the potential of more tickets available once we do our initial round of ticketing and see how many tickets were claimed
o Tickets are required for all GUESTS
o Students who are crossing the stage DO NOT require a ticket
o Graduation Ceremony tickets are free
o All guests will need their ticket to gain entrance to the Grey Eagle Event Centre to attend the Graduation Ceremony
o A reminder that your $60.00 graduation fee MUST be paid in full in order to access your free ceremony tickets
o Please ensure you have paid this fee on your myCBE account prior to April 7; otherwise a HOLD will be placed on your tickets
o Please connect with our Business Manager, Karen Cooper, at kaecooper@cbe.ab.ca if you need assistance regarding your graduation fee payment
Honour Roll Certificate Updates
· Due to popular demand, we will be printing a second round of Honour Roll certificates
· If you did not request one initially for your student, or you missed the March 7 deadline, please email Mr. Freeborn at mrfreeborn@cbe.ab.ca to request a certificate
· In the email, please include the first and last name of the student, as well as which grade they are currently in
· The hard deadline for this final round of certificate printing is 11:59 pm on Monday, March 31
· Certificates will be delivered to students once they are printed and signed, sometime early in April
Volunteer Opportunities for Students – Calgary Marathon
· The Calgary Marathon takes place May 24 & 25, and there are a number of volunteer opportunities available for Centennial students
· Students can volunteer to be part of the Bag & Bike Check crew, the Finish Line Fluids crew, or the Finish Line Foods crew

Vandalism
· Unfortunately, during the CUPE strike a small number of students have taken it upon themselves to vandalize our school washrooms repeatedly
· There are TikTok challenges associated with damaging/flooding toilets and urinals, as well as social media sites encouraging this behaviour
· If students know who is responsible for these senseless acts that harm the culture and well-being of their school, they are encouraged to inform any member of staff
· Students responsible will be suspended, and police will be engaged as we will pursue charges against the offenders
Reminder: Applications for Returning Grade 12 Students
- Students wishing to apply for a 4th year of high school at Centennial can pick up applications in the Main Office
- Availability for returning Grade 12 spots will be limited, due to our large overall student population expected for next year
- Students must submit their application to the Main Office by Friday, April 4
Student Progress Conferences
· A reminder that Student Progress Conferences are this evening and tomorrow, via Microsoft Teams
· If you were unable to book an appointment through your myCBE account but would like to connect with your child’s teacher(s), please feel free to email them to set up a chance to chat after Spring Break
Spring Break
· A reminder that tomorrow (Friday, March 21) is a Non-Instruction Day for Student Progress Conferences – the school will be closed
· Spring Break is all of next week
· Classes resume Monday, March 31
