Dear Centennial High School Community,

We hope this finds you well.  We had an exciting day yesterday, as we celebrated the diverse cultures represented at Centennial High School with Culture Day – complete with a lunchtime fashion show.  Meanwhile, students and staff continue to do our best to maintain stable and enriching school operations and experiences during the ongoing CUPE strike.  It is a busy and complex time for all of us.

Please read below for a number of updates and celebrations.

CITY CHAMPS!

  • Congratulations to our Senior Girls Basketball team, who captured the Division 1 City Championship this past Saturday by defeating Western Canada High School at the University of Calgary!
  • A huge congrats to our dedicated and passionate coaches (Ms. Blum, Ms. Godfrey, Ms. Turbach, and Ms. Engen), as well as our fantastic student athletes and trainers!
  • The girls move on to Regionals next, and play tomorrow (Friday, March 14) at 2pm at St. Mary’s High School against Lindsay Thurber High School from Red Deer
  • There are no spectator restrictions at St. Mary’s, so we hope the Centennial community comes out in droves to cheer on our ‘Yotes!!!
  • If we win tomorrow, we play in the Regional Championship this Saturday at noon (also at St. Mary’s High School)

 Congratulations Mr. Fox!

  • As is tradition at Centennial, senior students vote for the member of staff who they would like to deliver the Keynote Address at their Graduation Ceremony
  • Corbin Fox, Science teacher extraordinaire and heavily involved in our volleyball program (and pep rallies!), is this year’s student choice to speak on May 16 – congrats Mr. Fox!

Applications for Returning Grade 12 Students

  • Students wishing to apply for a 4th year of high school at Centennial can pick up applications in the Main Office
  • Availability for returning Grade 12 spots will be limited, due to our large overall student population expected for next year
  • Students must submit their application to the Main Office by the Friday, April 4 deadline

Grad Banquet Ticket Information

  • Last night the link on our website crashed briefly due to a run of over 700 Grad Banquet tickets being purchased in mere minutes
  • The link is working again – a reminder that school fees must be paid in full to be able to purchase banquet tickets
  • Grade 12 students/families – look for a separate School Messenger also coming out this evening with more Grad-related information!

Thank You Coaches

  • As our Winter Sports season winds down (though our wrestlers, badminton players, and Sr. Girls basketball team aren’t done yet!), and as our Spring Sports season kicks off, we want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all coaches at CHS
  • Whether teaching or support staff at Centennial, Coyote alumni, or community volunteers, ALL of our coaches donate untold hours and extensive dedication in the service of student athletes and our school community
  • THANK YOU!

Thank you for reading and have a great rest of your week and weekend.

Sincerely,
Joe Sturgeon

Principal, Centennial High School
