Centennial High School Updates – February 12, 2025 Dear Centennial High School Community, We hope your week is going well. Even though it is a short three day week at Centennial, a great deal seems to be jammed into it! Our wrestling team is off to their last quad meet of the season this afternoon, as they gear up for City Championships. Our basketball teams are in the midst of a very busy schedule, and badminton tryouts are underway. Meanwhile, the students of our Principal Advisory Council met with me yesterday, Leadership students are at a retreat today, and Pre-Engineering students are in preparations for an engineering competition at Fluor next Wednesday. All this while our Concert Band and Wind Ensemble rehearse for the upcoming Alberta International Band Festival on February 24. There is always so much happening all across our school community! Please read below for several additional updates. Teachers’ Convention & Family Day - A reminder that Teachers’ Convention is tomorrow and Friday, and that Family Day is Monday
- As such, the school is closed February 13 – 17
- Classes resume Tuesday, February 18
Guidance News – 2025/26 Course Selection & Registration - Guidance Counsellors will be addressing Grade 10 & 11 students in a virtual assembly during Period 2 Friday, February 21; they will be providing information on course registration for the next academic year
- Students with a Period 2 spare should go to the Learning Commons for the presentation and to collect their forms
- Students will receive a program planner and course selection registration packages, which should be taken home for parent/guardian discussion and signature
- Completed registration packages must be returned to Period 2 teachers by Wednesday, February 26
- Additionally, Grade 11 students will meet individually with their Guidance Counsellor during the week of March 3 – 7, while Grade 10 students will have their meetings from March 10 – 14
- During these sessions, selected courses will be entered into PowerSchool, and students will have the opportunity to ask any questions they may have
Howler Champs! - Congrats to BOTH our Senior Girls & Senior Boys basketball teams for winning our host Howler tournament!
- Thank you to the Phys-Ed team, basketball coaches, and Facilities staff for running such a great event
- Thank you also to MidSun School for being such great hosts for Friday games
- And, thank you Centennial spectators for coming out and supporting your ‘Yotes!
Club Rush! - Students are encouraged to pop by the Gym Monday, February 24 at Lunch for Club Rush!
- Several CHS extra-curricular clubs will be available for students to ask questions and sign up
Winter Clothing Drive! - A reminder of our Winter Clothing Drive coordinated by our Green Earth Club
- Gently used clothing items can be donated until Friday, February 28
- Donation bins are located near the Main Office

Journey Forward Speakers! - A reminder that our Guidance team has arranged several speakers from various professions to share their journeys with CHS students; speakers from the following professions will be at Centennial this semester to discuss their careers and share their journeys:
- Calgary Fire Department – February 19, 11:15am – 12:00pm
- Calgary Police – March 19, 11:15am – 12:00pm
- Chef and Academic Chair, SAIT Culinary – April 16, 11:15am – 12:00pm
- Physiotherapist – May 21, 11:15am – 12:00pm
- Students can sign up by a QR code posted in the school, or at T Wing Guidance
Graduation 2025! - The information below was shared via School Messenger with Grade 12 families last week
- Information regarding requests for tickets for Ceremony and Banquet will be communicated to students during Period 2 on Friday, February 21
- Students with Period 2 spares should attend the Learning Commons for this important virtual assembly
- There will be a copy of the UPDATED Graduation Information Booklet on our school website should you need an additional copy as of February 21, 2025
- All instructions for how to request tickets for the ceremony as well as purchasing tickets for the Banquet will be posted within the Graduation Information Booklet
