Dear Centennial High School Community,

We are on the eve of our annual Rock-A-Thon fundraiser, with thousands of dollars already raised for the Alberta Children’s Hospital!  Thank you to all who have donated to this event, to our students who will take to rocking chairs for hours on end tomorrow, and to our Leadership program for heading up such a fun, culture-building event while supporting such an important cause.

Please read below for several updates and reasons to celebrate.

Casino Volunteers Needed

• Casino funds provide tens of thousands of dollars to schools, money that goes directly to resources and programming to support kids
• We are fortunate to have an upcoming casino night (Wednesday, June 19 at the Deerfoot Inn & Casino)
• We are in need of a few more volunteers to fill the shifts on June 19

Spanish Exchange Program Success!

• At the beginning of the week, 8 Centennial students returned from Spain, where they enjoyed 10 weeks as part of our new Spanish student exchange program
• The experience was a life-changing one for our students, as it was for the students from Spain who stayed here in Calgary and attended CHS earlier in the school year
• Thank you to Ms. Babin for spearheading and coordinating this new program, and to our students and families who took part!

Badminton Champs!

• Our Badminton season is winding down, and this week we had some fantastic performances from our student athletes

Optimist Essay Finalist!

• Congratulations to Jiayi B., who finished 2nd in the Optimist Club’s Essay Competition this year
• Jiayi’s essay spoke to the importance of a positive mindset and optimistic outlook

In closing, this week marks Support Staff Appreciation Week in the Calgary Board of Education.  Wednesday, specifically, was Administrative Professionals Day.  The members of the Support Staff at Centennial High School are vital contributors to the well-being and learning of all of our students.  We appreciate them each and every day, and celebrate them this week.  For anyone reading this who may be a member of the Support Staff of a school anywhere, on behalf of all students, colleagues, and parents, I extend our gratitude for the often unheralded but always essential and skilled work that you do.  We appreciate you.
