 Dear Centennial High School Community,

This morning we had a staff meeting during which we celebrated 17 Centennial teachers and support staff who have achieved long service awards with the Calgary Board of Education (everything from 5 to 30 years of CBE service!)  We also wished our University of Calgary student teachers well, as they finish their practicums today and are set to join our profession in mere weeks.  During the staff meeting we shared a number of positive updates too – from former Coyotes entering the CFL draft, to emails we received this week from community members and businesses expressing their appreciation for the extraordinary manner in which Centennial students conduct themselves.  This is exemplified during field trips, while donating blood, while serving Easter Dinner to seniors across our field at Sundance on the Green, and in so many other ways.  Later this morning we were visited by a reporter with the CBC, who interviewed extraordinary Grade 12 students Kyla and Rosie as part of a piece on how schools (and specifically student leaders) promote wellness in their communities.  In short, it has been a smile-inducing day.

We know at Centennial that things are not perfect.  Though we love sharing positive news, we recognize that our school is not just one endless celebration of the good and great.  We make mistakes and we drop the ball.  Still, we always try our genuine best to do what is right and good.  That will not change.  So, as we head into a long weekend (remember, no school tomorrow or Monday – classes resume April 22), and as we head into Grad season, we want to express our appreciation to all of the Centennial families reading this message.  Thank you for trusting us with your children.  Thank you for sharing feedback – including the good stuff!  Thank you for raising kids of such character and integrity.  And thank you for working with us in partnership, as we try to make the world a better place.

 Have a wonderful weekend.
Sincerely,

Joe Sturgeon
