Dear Centennial High School Community,

As we head into the weekend, I want to share a number of celebrations and updates with you.  Please read below.

Junior Football – City Champions!

  • Congratulations to our Junior Football team, who won Centennial’s first ever Division 1 City Championship banner on Wednesday night!
  • To our coaches and student athletes – thank you for your incredible dedication through this uncertain and interrupted season; your place is secure in Coyote history

Senior Football – Championship Game Tonight!

  • Not to be outdone, our Senior Football team plays tonight (7:30pm, Hellard Field at Shouldice) against Lord Beaverbrook for the Division 2 City Championship!
  • Though this Principal spent years coaching football at Beaverbrook in a previous life, it’s all about the green tonight – Go Yotes!
  • My understanding from the CSHSAA is that the game tonight will be livestreamed through this link tonight: https://app.hometeamlive.com/leagues/184
    • I believe there is a $5 daily pass subscription fee for those wishing to livestream the game
  • Good luck Coyotes!

Senior Girls Volleyball Bronze Medal Game Tomorrow!

  • Our Senior Girls play at St. Francis tomorrow (Saturday) at 9:30am for a chance to earn a birth in Provincials next weekend
  • Go Yotes!

From our Guidance Department: Out of Province Post-Secondary Fair

  • Students are reminded that Out of Province Post-Secondary Fairs will be held at various schools Calgary high schools throughout November
  • Host schools include Dr. E.P. Scarlett, William Aberhart, Bishop Carroll, Henry Wisewood, and Strathcona Tweedsmuir
  • Over 50 post-secondary institutions will be represented
  • This is a great opportunity for students to meet with a recruiter and ask questions
  • Students can find more information about all these and more in their Wellness D2L shell

Student Progress Conferences

  • Student Progress Conferences will take place Friday, November 28, 8:30am – 1:30pm
  • The conferences will be held virtually, via Microsoft Teams
  • Conferences (10 minute time slots) can be booked starting this Thursday, November 20 at 4:00pm (bookings will close November 28 at 8:00am)
  • Conferences are booked through your myCBE account in PowerSchool

Centennial Book Sale – We Need Your Help!

  • Do you have books at home that you no longer read?
  • We’d love to give them a second life!
  • Please donate gently used books to our upcoming Book Sale
  • The Book Sale is December 8 – 12, run by the Centennial Book Club
  • All proceeds from the sale will go towards helping ensure students experiencing food insecurity have access to breakfast and lunch at Centennial
  • Please drop off your donations at one of our collection boxes, during school hours until December 5
  • Your generosity will make a real difference for our students – thank you for supporting both literacy and wellness in our school community!

 Parking Passes

  • An important reminder for any students parking in our school lot that they are required to purchase a parking pass, which must be displayed in their vehicle at all times when parked in the lot
  • Students can purchase parking passes by scanning the QR code outside the school Business Office
  • There are still some students who have purchased passes but who have not picked up the physical pass to display in their vehicle – please go to the Business Office to get your pass if you are one of these people
  • There are also several students who have requested but not yet paid for or picked up a pass – please go to the Business Office if that is you

 School Council Meeting

  • Our next School Council & Parent Society meeting will take place Wednesday, November 26
  • The meeting will be in our Learning Commons at 7:00pm

Thank you for reading and have a fantastic weekend.
Sincerely,
Joe Sturgeon

Principal, Centennial High School
